As I read this tonight, some 15 years later, I am struck by two things, first the insensitivity of the press, just as they wrote about my oldest brother Wayne's worn tennis shoes visible from the sheet that covered his body when he was killed in a school bus accident, they write of a man flying. That man was a son, a brother and a fiance and his brothers, Dad, fiance and his mother would read that one day.
Secondly, I am struck by the nurses comment "This will be a lesson to my son for years". I learned many lessons that day and throughout my journey that this one day forever changed that I will share with my son. Lessons about survival, coping, strength, what it means to love, how precious life is and ultimately what it means to have faith.
